Fremantle Highway Brandursache 2024

Disaster Averted as Burnt Car Carrier Reaches Port

Fire-Ravaged Vessel Arrives Safely

After Two Months at Sea

After a perilous two-month journey following a devastating fire, the burnt car carrier Fremantle Highway has finally reached port. The vessel arrived at its destination, the Spanish port of Las Palmas, on Sunday, October 30th. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing saga of the burnt ship, which had been adrift since a fire broke out on its decks on July 15th.

The fire on the Fremantle Highway had raged for several days, forcing the crew to abandon ship. The vessel remained afloat but severely damaged. Dutch authorities initially attempted to tow the ship to a safer location, but rough seas and strong winds made the operation impossible.

Eventually, the Fremantle Highway was left adrift with no clear destination. In the following weeks, the vessel drifted for hundreds of kilometres, posing a potential threat to shipping lanes. However, thanks to the efforts of salvage teams and favourable weather conditions, the ship was eventually towed to Las Palmas.
